Home Inspection #2 - Test Procedures

The first step was to run adhesive tape along the back side of the siding J-channel after the integrity of that J-channel's calking was confirmed on the window frame. This tape would anchor the plastic covering the window isolating that window from the rest of the siding. The intent of this procedure is to determine if the siding of the house, minus the windows, is allowing water to pass to the interior.

A close up of the taped down plastic window shield showing the J-channel and where the siding enters and meets that J-channel, is open to water application.

window j-channel

All windows on that side of the house were taped along the edges and covered in plastic to insure the water when applied would contact only the house siding and not the windows.

windows fully covered in plastic

Once all the windows on this part of the house were covered with plastic, water was then applied to every aspect of that side of the house with the full intent to cause a leak, or water infiltration to the interior of the house.
